Tupac’s Crown Ring Heads to Auction Celebrating 50 Years of Hip-Hop
Tupac Shakur’s self-designed crown ring, worn at the 1996 VMAs, is set to be auctioned at Sotheby’s event celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. This dazzling gold, ruby, and diamond-encrusted ring, valued at up to $300,000, represents the rapper’s vision for the next stage of his career. According to the auction house, Tupac, freshly released from prison and newly signed to Death Row Records, told his godmother and money manager Fula that he wanted to design a piece of jewelry befitting of “an act of self-coronation,” Fula said. Inspired by royalty and Machiavelli, Tupac collaborated with New York jewelers to create it. The ring’s band pays tribute to his then-girlfriend Kidada Jones, engraved with “Pac & Dada 1996.” This iconic piece, which marked Tupac’s last public appearance before his tragic death, kicks off Sotheby’s 50th-anniversary hip-hop auction, featuring a wide range of art, artifacts, sneakers, and more from legendary artists like Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, and Ice-T.

Drake Kicks Off ‘It’s All A Blur’ Tour
The opening night at the “It’s All A Blur” tour was nothing short of spectacular, with Drake delivering an unforgettable performance for his day-ones. The show started with a nostalgic touch as Drake took the stage, sitting on a couch and reciting the heartfelt lyrics of “Look What You’ve Done” from his acclaimed album “Take Care.” Adding to the intrigue, a younger version of Drake—rumored to be a digitally altered actor—appeared on the jumbo screens, accompanying him during earlier songs from his discography. The tour’s visuals, all in all, were on another level. A massive statue of the late trend-setter Virgil Abloh stood beside the stage, paying homage to the Illinois native. And if that wasn’t enough, inflatable-like sperm floated above the audience. Drake treated his fans to an epic setlist, packed with over 50 songs that spanned the entire decade of his career. From emotional hits like “Marvins Room” to catchy anthems like “Headlines” and “The Motto,” he left no stone unturned. As if that wasn’t enough, 21 Savage joined the festivities, making a grand entrance with “Red Opps” and collaborating with Drake on tracks like “Spin Bout U,” “Jimmy Cooks,” and “Rich Flex” from their Her Loss collaborative album. Of course, no live show is complete without a few unexpected moments. In a strange twist, someone in the audience threw their cell phone at Drake, hitting him in the arm. Although he didn’t address the incident on stage, it served as a reminder of the passionate—and sometimes unruly—behavior of fans. Nevertheless, Drake remained unfazed and closed the night with a captivating rendition of “Legend” from his mixtape If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. Amidst all the excitement, Drake couldn’t resist teasing his upcoming project. While keeping the details under wraps, he assured fans that the new album would be released “soon for y’all.” The mere mention of new music sent the crowd into a frenzy, eagerly anticipating what the superstar has in store. This is just the beginning of Drake’s “It’s All A Blur” tour, with many more cities to conquer and countless fans to mesmerize. The tour will continue through early October, culminating with two highly anticipated dates in Drake’s hometown of Toronto.

‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’ Is Finally Here
Drop everything because Taylor Swift has released Speak Now (Taylor’s Version). Her re-recorded version of the 2010 album features the original 16 tracks, plus an additional 6 tracks “From The Vault” for Swifties to enjoy. Speak Now was Swift’s third studio album and was her first that was entirely self-written. In a post shared on her Instagram, Taylor shared it’s “an album I wrote alone about the whims, fantasies, heartaches, dramas, and tragedies I lived out as a young woman between 18 and 20.” In a move that has some Swifties surprised Taylor has altered a lyric on “Better Than Revenge (Taylor’s Version),” removing a previously controversial line that was rumored to be about ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas’ girlfriend at the time, Camilla Belle. Swift removed the line in which she sang “She’s better known for the things that she does on the mattress” instead opting for “He was a moth to the flame / She was holding the matches.” Reminding fans that she “recorded this album when I was 32 (and still growing up, now),” the lyric change shows Swift’s growth as a person over the last decade. Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is the third installment of Swift’s efforts to reclaim her masters after they were sold by her former record label in 2019. However, what is potentially the most exciting thing about Swift’s re-records are the previously unreleased tracks she shares from that particular album’s era. On Speak Now’s vault tracks, Swift shared that she’s “still unfailingly proud” of them now. The tracks feature collaborations with Fall Out Boy and Paramore’s Hayley Williams, with production work from her modern-day collaborators Aaron Dessner & Jack Antonoff. After listening to Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), we can safely say that it’s the best thing that’s ever been hers.

The Weeknd, Jennie Kim, and Lily-Rose Depp Stunt in “One Of The Girls” Video
HBO’s highly-anticipated The Idol wrapped up with its finale on Sunday, which means The Weeknd’s run of new music for the show also comes to a close. On Thursday, The Weeknd dropped the music video for “One Of The Girls”, a song that was dropped as part of the series’ fourth episode, featuring BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim and co-star Lily-Rose Depp. Set to a synth-heavy track, in the same vein as the show itself, the music video is aligned with a compilation video from the course of the show. In the video, we see Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp) and Dyanne (Jennie Kim) party together, prompting Jocelyn to perform the song from a set-up in her home. Tedros (The Weeknd) watches Dyanne and Jocelyn dance together, lurking in the background. The song was originally teased by Jennie Kim in a Calvin Klein capsule launch event, and fans quickly discerned it to be a collaborative cut with The Weeknd, and co-producer Mike Dean. In addition, The Weeknd has recently released “Dollhouse”, another collaboration with Lily-Rose, which comes from the mixed-received show’s soundtrack and features other noteworthy collaborators including Future, Moses Sumney, and Lil Baby. If you haven’t watched The Idol, and are torn based on the reviews, this video might just be the soft introduction you need to make up your mind.
