It’s Grammy nominations day! A celebratory day for all the nominees and a good day to scroll through social media for reactions as the 86 categories are released. If you don’t feel like squinting and trying to speed scroll through the extensive list, not to worry because I did. Let’s dive in with the pop-punk princess of the year, Olivia Rodrigo, who has a total of 7 nominations. More than half of her nominations are in the four main categories—Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best New Artist. Good 4 her. Doja Cat and Justin Bieber each received 8 nominations. Bieber gets his peaches out in Georgia and “Peaches” gets him 4 nominations. To no one’s surprise, Billie Eilish and Finneas each pulled in multiple nominations. Eilish received 7 and Finneas received 5 for songwriting, producing, and his own music with a nomination for Best New Artist. Behind the scenes no more!

BeatRoute alum was plentiful as well. Our January 2021 cover star, Arlo Parks, is up for Best New Artist along with Glass Animals. Jon Batiste, well known as the music producer of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, received a total of 11 nominations. *pause for reaction* Earlier this year, we talked to him about the making of his album We Are which is now up for Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year, and Best R&B Album among other categories. Country darling, Dolly Parton, received a nomination for her Christmas album A Holly Dolly Christmas which she chatted to us about in our December 2020 cover story.

Wizkid received 2 nominations for his album Made In Lagos and his song “Essence” featuring Tems which was arguably the song of the summer. Bringing his total career nominations to 4 he’s now the most nominated Nigerian artist in Grammy history. Lil Nas X received 5 nominations across multiple categories. From hip-hop, J. Cole and Kanye each received 4 nominations—despite Twitter’s confusion about Kanye’s complicated history with the Grammys.
