Summer is coming to a close and while live shows still aren’t in the cards and we’re spending our evenings dancing in our living rooms, artists are continuing to release music for us to enjoy from the comfort of our own homes.

The month of September has delivered big sounds with Big Sean’s new album, Detroit 2, a dreamy new single, “Take Care of You,” from Charlotte Day Wilson and LA alt-rockers Wallows keeping our indoor energy up with “Nobody Gets Me (Like You).” Here are the songs we have on repeat this month.

Big Sean “Lithuania” Ft Travis Scott

A Big Sean and Travis Scott collab commands higher expectations than Travis Scott’s McDonald’s meal has calories, but “Lithuania” does not disappoint with Scott doing what he does best: using his auto-tuned melodies for the hook while Sean raps about how far he’s come. For an extra bonus, check out the eerie music video that draws inspiration from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.

Octavian delivers a melodic hip-hop single from his upcoming debut album with the help of Gunna and SAINt JHN talking about the ups and downs of fame on the rise to the top. 

PARTYNEXTDOOR “PGT” 

PARTYNEXTDOOR released his long-awaited album, Partymobile, during quarantine and “PGT” is one of the tracks that leaves you with that long-lasting PND vibe. The track starts off with a slow, sensual beat that picks up and slows down throughout the song. It’s the perfect selection for a night in with your crush and a bottle of wine. 

Jody Glenham “Barely Alive”

Jody Glenham set a sombre and reflective tone with the release of her third full-length, Mood Rock, earlier this summer. An angelic voice and an exceptionally talented songwriter, Glenham’s new slow-burn single has been giving us life while also lulling us to sleep at night in the best way possible. 

Slowthai “Feel Away” ft James Blake & Mount Kimbie

Slowthai births a slower-paced track with beautiful vocals from UK-crooner-of-the-moment, James Blake. Filled with all kinds of feels, the song is about doubts in relationships and putting yourself in someone else’s shoes. To drive the concept home, the accompanying music video shows Slowthai with a baby bump, instead of his girlfriend, as a physical manifestation of the song’s meaning.

AD Smithh – “Always Tempted By The Vice”

While his Dead Soft bandmates are waiting out the pandemic from their cozy pad on Gabriola Island, drummer Alex Smith has emerged from behind his drum kit to crank out a quirky DIY offering under the moniker AD Smithh. His new album may be called Hot Nothing, but it’s definitely something. A fun and scrappy lo-fi punk offering that channels the spirit of rock and roll anti-heroes like Jay Reatard, this debut single is fun and addictive. Stay tuned for more when the album drops on Sept. 29.

A Boogie Wit da Hoodie “Vroom Vroom” ft Don Q and Trap Manny

Produced by Murda Beatz and Cardiac, this banger follows the guitar-rap wave in hip-hop that surged recently, thanks to the likes of Gunna and Travis Scott. The song starts off with a melodic guitar loop accompanied by hard-hitting kicks and snares while Boogie, Don Q, and Trap Manny rap about girls and wealth. 

Shame “Alphabet”

These post-punk bad boys from the UK are growing up and their music is becoming more poignant and powerful in the process. On their latest single the band mind their P’s and Q’s with an aggressively rhythmic meditation on self-care in an anxious age.  

YoungBoy Never Broke Again “My Window” ft Lil Wayne

YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s highly anticipated album Top just dropped earlier this month and “My Window” featuring Lil Wayne is easily one of the best songs off the album. YoungBoy delivers a catchy hook that’s sure to get stuck in your head, and Lil Wayne reminds us why he’s still one of the best lyricists in hip-hop. 

Charlotte Day Wilson “Take Care of You” ft Syd

We’re still reeling from 2016’s “Work” but Charlotte Day Wilson does it again with “Take Care of You,” featuring Syd. It’s the velvety love song we didn’t know we needed in our life but can’t live without after hearing it. Wilson’s vocals are dreamy as always overtop a soothing blend of signature soul and R&B.

Wallows “Nobody Gets me (Like You)” 

Wallows lay the nostalgia on thick with distortion, synths, and drums to deliver a 90s aesthetic that’s become their signature style. The music video uses a Windows 98 theme that is sure to catch your attention while you nod your head to the energetic beat. 

Disclosure “Birthday” ft Kehlani & Syd 

Disclosure teamed up with California native artists Kehlani and Syd, making their latest party offering more mellow and R&B-tinged than most of their well-known electronic music. Kehlani and Syd discuss whether or not it’s okay to call an ex on their birthday over a percussion-based beat from the English brothers who don’t share the same birthday, but are both May babies.
