Rihanna Talks Motherhood, Hints That She Wants to Drop Album This Year
History was made last weekend in the 13 minutes Rihanna strutted across the Super Bowl stage in her crimson red outfit. As the intro to “BBHMM” echoed across the 234 by 403 feet State Farm Stadium and screens worldwide, the halftime show was officially kicked off, followed by a medley of bop after bop spanning the 17 years of RiRi’s music career. From a dynamic levitating stage to precise drone camera movements and background dancers who gave them their all, every last detail of the show was perfected to a T. We expected nothing less coming from Rihanna and she blew our expectations out of the water. It’s remarkable to think that this was her first public performance in 7 years and her return to the stage was coupled with the announcement of her second baby on the way. The nine-time Grammy winner welcomed her first child with A$AP Rocky earlier this year, and in her cover story on British Vogue, she recalls feeling blessed about the experience but that it was also a total “head f**k.” “I cannot believe it,” she says, “you’re just going through the motions, and even then you’re so paranoid. Because you’re like: they trusted us to come home with this baby? This new life? With us?” Not even RiRi can escape the new-mom fears but she’s handling it exceptionally well. She reveals that her life has “changed a lot” since becoming a new parent but that she feels emboldened by it. “It’s this knowing that you can do anything,” she explains, referring to saying yes to a Super Bowl Halftime Show in the middle of postpartum. The same sense of empowerment can be replicated in entering motherhood while still being completely hands-on with her businesses, Fenty Beauty, Fenty Skin, and Savage x Fenty. When asked the age-old question regarding her new album, RiRi reveals candidly the immense pressure she puts on herself to create something better than her last album, Anti, and acknowledges that’s not a healthy way of thinking. At this point in her life, she just wants to play with music. Despite her mega-successful brands keeping her busy, she never strayed far away from recording. “I want it to be this year,” she says, intending to zero in on an album release. “Like, honestly, it’d be ridiculous if it’s not this year.” Her intel on this swift timeline is prior to knowing her second pregnancy but despite the possible change of plans, it is assuring to fans and people who love RiRi as a musician and artist that an album is on its way.

Pharrell Williams Succeeding Virgil Abloh As Louis Vuitton Men’s Creative Director
We all know Pharrell as a multi-hyphenated creative, juggling the spheres of music, fashion, and skincare in the palm of his hand. He has long been a trendsetter with a sick sense of style since the early 2000s when he rocked trucker hats, shearling jackets, and skateboard tees in a landscape of rappers and producers in baggy jeans and even baggier t-shirts. A natural norm-defiant and visionary, his ability to innovate and break the societal mold charmed everyone. Now adding to this extensive list of people under his spell is the fashion powerhouse Louis Vuitton, which appointed him to be the new creative director for its men’s collection. The position has been vacant for more than a year since the passing of Virgil Abloh, and LV foresees Pharrell’s “vision beyond fashion,” adding a unique flair to the century-old brand. The singer-producer has had a long-standing connection to the realm of fashion. In addition to operating his own luxury streetwear brand Billionaire Boys Club, and its sister brand, Ice Cream, Pharrell released collabs with some of the biggest names in the game, think Chanel, Moncler, and of course, Louis Vuitton. The duo had previously joined forces in 2004 and 2008 to release limited-edition sunglasses and jewelry, but this time around, the son of a pharaoh will be designing an all-encompassing collection. Showcasing next June during the Men’s Fashion Week in Paris, this collection is one to watch out for, and we shall wait patiently until when he drops it like it’s hot.

Rosalía to Receive Producer of the Year Award at Billboard Women in Music Awards
In the game of leveling up, Rosalía is winning. The Latin artist just copped another award under her belt, and the newest addition to her collection is the Producer of the Year Award at the Billboard Women in Music Awards. This win adds to the Spanish singer’s hot streak of winning Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album at the Grammys and Album of the Year at the Latin Grammys, both for her album, MOTOMAMI, earlier this month. “We are thrilled to honor Rosalía with this award and recognize her behind-the-scenes work in the recording studio to bring her vision to fruition,” said Hannah Karp, Billboard’s Editorial Director. “With numerous groundbreaking hits that blur the lines between traditional music genres, Rosalía consistently uses her unique producing abilities to break the mold and deliver the unexpected.” Indeed. Blending dembow, bachata, reggaeton, and bolero into a 16-track LP is no easy task but Rosalía makes it look effortless. It’s only been two months into the new year, and she’s kept busy performing at the Louis Vuitton Men’s Fall-Winter 2023 Fashion Show in Paris, releasing her new single, “LLYLM,” and gearing up for her Coachella set in April. Joining Rosalía at the awards night are several other prominent women artists. SZA will accept the Woman of the Year Award; Becky G will be honored with the Impact Award presented by American Express; Doechii with the Rising Star Award presented by Honda; Ivy Queen with the Icon Award; Kim Petras with the Chartbreaker Award; Latto with the Powerhouse Award; Lainey Wilson with the Rulebreaker Award; Lana Del Rey with the Visionary Award, and TWICE with the Breakthrough Award. BRB, crying, screaming, and tearing up for all these women doing amazing work.

Daniel Caesar Announces Third Studio Album ‘Never Enough’ Out April 7
Canadian artist Daniel Caesar has announced the release of his long-awaited third album, NEVER ENOUGH, out this spring with a teaser on his YouTube channel. The album will follow up his 2019 smash CASE STUDY 01. The multi-platinum artist has already released a slew of singles from the project, including the funky “Do You Like Me?” which Caesar has described as being about “a woman I respect deeply. 90 degrees of a love triangle.” This album has been a long time coming however, Caesar had not been staying idle. Over the last few years, he performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, appeared on the track “Invincible” with Omar Apollo, and performed his smash hit “Peaches” alongside Justin Bieber & Giveon at the 2022 GRAMMY Awards. Daniel also recently scooped up a Juno Awards nomination for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording for his 2022 single, “Please Do Not Lean,” featuring the Canadian instrumental group Badbadnotgood. The track was the alt-R&B star’s first release on a major record label after years of success as an independent artist. When asked about the shift, he shared that he “did as much as I could on my own, and I experienced a lot as an independent artist. I wanted to feel the difference of having such a large machine behind me.” NEVER ENOUGH marks his first release with Republic Records and is out on April 7th. Already, this announcement is gearing up to be the best part of my summer.

The 1975, Kelsea Ballerini Join ‘SNL’ Musical Guest Lineup
Saturday Night Live just announced their upcoming musical guests, including country star Kelsea Ballerini and the band taking over everyone’s TikTok For You page, The 1975. On March 4th, Kelsea will be joined by host & Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce—no, the irony of Kelsea and Kelce being featured in the same episode is not lost on us—and we can expect to see a performance from the heartbreaker who surprise-dropped a brand new EP and its accompanying short film titled Rolling Up The Welcome Mat. In the week following, The 1975 will join host and Wednesday star, Jenna Ortega, marking their first appearance on the iconic show since 2016. The band is currently on a sold-out world tour promoting their newest album, Being Funny in a Foreign Language, and if their SNL performance is anything like their live shows, we’re in for a treat.
