Despite only being formed in 2019, Forester has already made waves in the indie-electronic scene. They first came on our radar a few years ago with the release of Trail Mix 001 on Soundcloud, and have since stolen the hearts of thousands with their danceable beats and deeply personal lyrics (not to mention some of the most aesthetically pleasing album art and Instagram feeds in the game). 

Based in Los Angeles, Forester is comprised of longtime friends Xander Carlson and David Parris. The duo’s first big break came in 2020 when they landed a deal with Kygo’s Palm Tree Records, and they’ve since opened for him at Red Rocks in Colorado, performed at Palm Tree Music Festival, and most recently, charmed fans on the Billboard Stage at SXSW 2022. 

Their third album Watercolor, released earlier this month, has already amassed millions of streams and sees Forester refining their signature synth sound and exploring themes of love and openness. The album spans 12 songs and was largely inspired by the California coastline—naturally, the result is endless good vibes and perpetual summer feels with a noticeable energy shift mid-album. They just kicked off their North American tour, and if you want to catch Forester live (who wouldn’t), they’ll be at Adelaide Hall in Toronto on April 7th, and Biltmore Cabaret in Vancouver on April 16th. We had a chat with David Parris and asked him some questions to get to know the band better. Check ‘em out below!

What’s your favorite music video you’ve done and why? 
Our favorite music video we’ve done would probably be the ‘She Said’ music video. We were able to work on it with some good friends of ours and it allowed Xander and me to show a little more of our personalities. It ended up being a fun, quirky video that encapsulated the free-spirited feeling the song was written about.

What were your New Year’s resolutions this year? Have you kept them? 
To be honest neither of us really made any New Year’s resolutions. I think we always try to be the best version of ourselves and do what feels right. A couple of our main principles are to work hard and spread positivity.

If you were a ghost, who would you haunt?
If Xander were a ghost he’d haunt hikers and campers along the John Muir trail and I would probably haunt some good friends just to get a laugh out of it.

What trivia category do you dominate in? 
I can’t say we play trivia often, but the easy answer would be music. I think Xander would dominate in the nature category. He’s an encyclopedia when it comes to that world.

Which one of you would survive longer in a horror movie?
Wow, that’s a great question! If I were a betting man I might say Xander because he’s trained in wilderness survival so he could use those skills to be resourceful. I’d probably be trying to sneak attack the bad guys, which could go either way.
