Kendrick Lamar Confirms New Album Is Dropping In May
We finally have a date for Kendrick Lamar’s long-awaited album which will be his final with Top Dawg Entertainment. Taking to Twitter this week (which he hasn’t used since Dec 2021), Kendrick quote-tweeted a fan’s tweet from Feb 2022 claiming he had retired. A man of few words, Kendrick simply added a link to his website in the retweet and let the press release on his site speak for him. The good news is that he’s not retiring but his plans post-TDE remain unclear. His forthcoming album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, will arrive on May 13th and it’s his first project in 5 years. The press release had a pgLang logo in the corner which may be a hint to Kendrick’s future plans. Founded by Kendrick and Dave Free, pgLang is a multimedia company comprised of a record label, production house, publishing services, and more. Baby Keem is signed to pgLang and Kendrick has been putting significantly more effort into the company over the last few years suggesting it’s part of a larger plan.

Pusha T’s Album ‘It’s Almost Dry’ Feat. Jay-Z, Kid Cudi & Pharrell Is Here
After months of teasing his new album Kanye-style in interviews, It’s Almost Dry is finally here. Produced by Kanye and Pharrell, Pusha T put two of the industry’s goats in friendly competition for who can make the best beats on the album and it shows. If that wasn’t enough, he also has features from Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, Nigo, Lil Uzi Vert, Labrinth, Don Toliver, and No Malice. The song “Rock N Roll” featuring Kid Cudi and Kanye marks the last collaboration between the two artists. After a very public falling out, Cudi took to Twitter this week to clarify that “Rock N Roll” was recorded a year ago and he is not friends with Kanye but cleared the song anyways for Pusha T.

Olivia Rodrigo Is Glossier’s First-Ever Celebrity Face
Since launching in 2014, the millennial pink beauty brand, Glossier has never had a celebrity ambassador as part of its marketing strategy—until now. Enter teen queen, Olivia Rodrigo and a brand new campaign to seal the deal. The union makes perfect sense, Olivia has always opted for more natural and youthful makeup looks, even on the red carpet, and Glossier is the reigning DIY beauty brand with products that enhance your natural features. The partnership aims to challenge the notion of what a typical celebrity endorsement looks like and with celebrity beauty brands popping up faster than Kanye can organize another livestream, some originality would be welcomed in the saturated market. Olivia’s beauty philosophy takes a less is more approach with an emphasis on self-care, the act of doing a skincare routine or putting on some Boy Brow and Haloscope is mostly for herself to feel rejuvenated and comfortable in her own skin. I, for one, am eyeing the ‘90s-inspired manicure Olivia is wearing in her first Glossier photoshoot complete with jewels, smiley faces, and the signature “you look good” slogan on top of a nude base. Good 4 Glossier.

Jack Harlow’s “First Class” Debuts At No. 1 On Billboard Hot 100
We already know Jack Harlow can put you in first class, but his song of the same title also put him first on the charts—earning him his first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. I know what you’re thinking, there’s no way this man has never earned a No. 1 song before when he’s had the internet in a chokehold for a minute. His feature on Lil Nas X’s “Industry Baby” technically speaking was his “first” but “First Class” marks the first time his own song reached the coveted No.1 spot. No doubt thanks to much of the female population that has been blasting his Fergalicious sampling song non-stop since its official release last week. This also marks the second time in 2022 that a song has debuted on the Hot 100 chart in the No. 1 spot, right after Harry Styles’ “As It Was” single. Well if hot boy Jack is going to be second to anyone, Harry Styles is a worthy contender. Jack’s new album Come Home the Kids Miss You will be released on May 5th and I’m already bracing myself for my fyp to be flooded with Jack-related content.

Daniel Caesar’s “Please Do Not Lean” Is A Tender Confession
After headlining Coachella last weekend, Daniel Caesar released his first single in three years this week. Yes, he was on “Peaches” and yes, he just performed at the Grammys but in regards to his own music, he’s been relatively quiet since the release of Case Study 01 in 2019. It seems the wait is over, releasing the song “Please Do Not Lean” feat. BADBADNOTGOOD. The tender track showcases his soft vocals as he sings the intro conversation style before the instrumentation comes in full force and he sings the hook with powerful intention. True to his R&B roots, the single paints a picture of Daniel’s instability in his relationship, asking his partner not to lean on him because he can’t provide the strong pillar they seek. The release is likely in preparation for his third studio album which gives fans something to look forward to in the coming months.
