Take a listen to the singles “Mopstick” and “Run It Up” and you’d never guess these are Juice’s first singles—ever. While the young Toronto rapper might be fresh in the game, he’s proving early on that he’s got, well, the juice.
The Remix Project alum cut his creative teeth with slam poetry before pursuing rap, which is evident is his expressive bars and adventurous rhyme schemes. “I didn’t really think I was good for a long time,” Juice says of his artistic inspirations. “But I always had something to say. So I started doing slam poetry to improve my skills and get my name out there.”
Fans of the two singles will be happy to know that a body of work is on its way and Juice promises to share more on that soon. Until then, he’s taking things in stride and not thinking too hard about the competitive nature of the rap game, specifically in the hotbed that is Toronto. “Honestly I don’t try to stand out,” he says. “I’m just being me. I want to connect to people through my life and experiences.”
