I love it. I love it. I love it! Bella Kay brought The Reckless Tour to Toronto’s Opera House last Friday, and I’m still in awe. She defined energy, freedom, and pure joy on that stage. The American singer-songwriter started us off with “Say It Say,” setting the pace for a high-energy run. After about five uptempo songs, she slowed down the pace a bit and took us through “Steady,” “ceilings,” “swu,” “wonder wander,” and some of her other slow tunes. Her perfectly smooth vocals had us hooked from the beginning. We soaked in every lyric, every note, and every moment she gave us. There was something so natural and freeing about the way she moved between songs and made the entire set feel like one big conversation between her and us. 

The show was just getting started, and you could tell we wanted it to last forever. The crowd sang along to every familiar lyric, screamed whenever she teased the next song, and somehow found even more energy with each song. It was one of those shows where you look around and realize that nobody wants to be anywhere else but there.  

Let’s talk about the set up. Kay had the cutest living room setup on stage, complete with a cozy-looking pink couch that she danced around and got comfortable on from time to time throughout her set. It added such a personal touch to the show and perfectly matched the warmth of her music. It felt like she had invited all of us into her world for the night. One moment I won’t forget was when she sat down with her guitarist on the couch as he played alongside her, and she sang along. It was such a simple moment, but somehow one of the most memorable parts of the night. There was no huge production or elaborate choreography needed. It was just Bella, her guitarist, and her beautiful voice filling the room. 

One thing I love about Bella is how free she is with her music; her lyrics make you feel like you can just be yourself, and that’s exactly what this show felt like. You could tell that although we were glued together in one room —almost 1000 of us, mostly strangers— it somehow still felt like a safe space, like we could be truly free and sing our hearts out. Nobody cared about looking cool or keeping quiet. We were there to feel the music, and she created the kind of environment where you could do exactly that. 

Bella also mentioned that The Opera House was the first venue she ever performed in live, and what a full-circle moment it felt like to witness her return to the same space years after. We were a part of that milestone, and honored to be. 

She turned up the energy again with “Blur” and had us screaming at the top of our lungs.  After that performance, she teased us with an outro, but quickly eased our fears that the night was coming to an end by screaming, “I love it;” the moment we’d been waiting for. She performed her hit single “iloveitiloveitiloveit” with so much energy and passion, you could feel her excitement from wherever you were standing, or rather, jumping and screaming. 

Everything from her wardrobe to the lights, her band, and the set was simply fantastic, and you could tell it was well thought out. Thumbs up to everyone who worked on that because I’m still thinking about it. Toronto was lucky to experience this, and I’m already ready for her next tour.
