GOING SOLO
Beyoncé, ‘Renaissance’
Are you “That Girl”? Prove it by showing out this Halloween in your best Beyoncé inspired costume. There’s an abundance of looks to spark a bright idea from 2022’s Renaissance era—whether it’s a creative cowgirl look emulating the alternative cover, a recreation of Queen Bey’s British Vogue July cover, or just a bedazzled bra and 30 luscious inches of hair. And those who like to go all out for the spooky season, I dare you to rent a horse.

Kate Bush / Max, ‘Stranger Things’
The trend of Kate Bush’s resurgence in pop culture following Stranger Things season 4 is still running up that hill. If you’re sick of people not understanding your Halloween costumes—I’m a mouse, duh—capitalize on this music moment of 2022. Show up to your Halloween party as Kate Bush with ’80s-inspired fluffy hair and vibrant unblended makeup. Or really do the damn thing and show up as Max, creepy contacts, blue jumper, and cassette player included.

Rosalía, Motomami
Calling all Motomamis. Channel your gum-chewing, eye-rolling, bad bitchery as Rosalía this Halloween. Pull iconic looks from her motorcycle-driven aesthetic that toured the globe and the internet, whether it’s a DIY project or buying from Dion Lee directly. If you think less is more, you could just opt for a Helmet, some hair extensions, and a long set of nails and attend as the album cover look. But we at least feel obligated to recommend some nude undergarments if you’re heading out of the house.

Kendrick Lamar, Tiffany Crown
Remember Kendrick Lamar’s $3 million dollar Tiffany crown? Of course, you do. Now, the exact crown is definitely not accessible to the masses, but we have faith in our crafty friends. This may be a more time-consuming DIY, but pretty low lift in terms of cost—we’re thinking paper mache crown structure, a glue gun, and some dollar store gems. Pair a skilfully bejeweled crown with a white button-up and some (fake) blood splatters (optional) and you’re giving Glastonbury Kendrick.

Steve Lacy
Gemini Rights, Steve Lacy’s 2nd studio album, had its own rightful takeover of the charts in 2022. He’s seen sporting the same look, now instantly recognizable to fellow music fans, in press photos, his “Bad Habit” and “Sunshine” music videos, and it’s become his one and only tour outfit. It’s a super simple, fashionable, and unique look that reflects the times. All you need is a white or pinstripe button-up to doodle on with some fabric pens, leather skinnies, and a pair of black sunglasses. Plus, if you’d like to turn this solo costume into a duet, get yourself a Fousheé.

YOU & YOURS
Silk Sonic / Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak
If you’re a big fan of disco and funk and you’re tired of the same old go-go dancer costume, indulge in An Evening With Silk Sonic. Dedicated to the ‘70s in more ways than one, Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak are peak retro inspo for Halloween this year. The duo has endless looks to choose from, and whichever you decide to emulate will surely be recognizable and groovy.

Harry Styles and Shania Twain, Harrychella
The impact of Harrychella was significant. In fact, I’m sort of forgetting who the other headliners at Coachella even were—this phenomenon is referred to as the Harry Styles Effect™, and was amplified by the Shania Twain Impact™. This cultural reset would make for an incredibly flashy duo this Harryween. If you’re going as Shania you’ll need big hoops, white patent leather platform boots, and lots of sequins. If you’re going as Harry, you’ll need some temporary tattoos, a jumpsuit with a deep v-neck, and again, lots of sequins.

A$AP Rocky and Rihanna
Choosing a Halloween costume is challenging enough so I can’t even imagine how the decision-making process could change if you’re currently pregnant. I mean, you could be a pregnant version of anything, but why not take advantage of the opportunity to do something fitting? This is why I propose one of the most iconic moments of 2022—Rihanna’s pregnancy announcement. I’d suggest going with the ‘96 Chanel look from the photos that broke the news as it is weather appropriate and the looks worn by the couple are so them. If you’re an A$AP Rocky and Rihanna stan, then don’t let the lack of pregnancy stop you either, the duo has an abundance of iconic looks to choose from.

IT’S A TEAM EFFORT
Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent & Mary J. Blige, Super Bowl 2022
For a legends-only group of up to 6 members, call your dibs on which Super Bowl ‘22 performer you’re channeling this Halloween. This halftime show took over the internet and is likely still lingering in people’s minds so many months later. The looks of the respective artists are relatively simple and aligned with their existing images outside of this performance. This means that you don’t necessarily need the entire group or a massive budget to make this one work. If you called dibs on 50 Cent, you absolutely need to hang backward at least once while wearing your look, it’s non-negotiable.

The Weeknd ‘After Hours til Dawn’ Tour Looks
If you’re that friend in the group that takes Halloween seriously but has trouble rallying an equally enthusiastic group, this one is for you. The Weeknd’s After Hours til Dawn Tour looks are attainable and have unequal distribution of labor. For the costume aficionado, dress up as Abel, in a black getup, and have an opportunity to craft a mask he opens the show in. For the rest of the group, grab some red tulle or cotton from your local fabric store and drape it over you like an After Hours ghost.

Steve Lacy, Kanye, Lil Uzi Vert, Matching Tattoos
This one is dedicated to those out there looking for a low-lift costume idea and really just need something passable to not get ridiculed at the Halloween party. It’s easy, it’s relevant, and it’s kind of an easter egg—those who get it, get it. Grab a pen or marker and replicate the “we here forever technically” tattoo that bonded Steve Lacy, Kanye West, and Lil Uzi Vert earlier this year. You’re welcome.
