If you’ve been following Dua Lipa on social media since the release of her Grammy Award-winning album Future Nostalgia like me, then you also must be wondering damn, how does she do it? She’s 70-something shows deep of her world tour with plenty of stops left to go, she’s doing headstands with Vogue, being awarded the title of Honorary Ambassador of Kosovo, and still finds time in-between to take the most aspirational vacation photos with her friends and family that give me major travel FOMO. And more. Way more. I always get particularly excited when she creeps her way onto my feed but admittedly, I get tired and short of breath just by looking at what she’s up to.
Without making this a listicle about every single accomplishment of hers—it would be way too long and not the point I’m leading up to—Dula Peep is evidently someone whose lived experience set her up to be destined for greatness. In honor of her 27th birthday—yes, only 27—and Leo season, I’ve decided to take a look at her Big 3. Your astrological birth chart essentially marks your arrival on earth, a snapshot of the sky when you took your first breath. And the Big 3, as it’s commonly referred to, are the keys of every chart to reveal someone’s life purpose (Sun), emotional needs (Moon), and motivation for life (Ascendant). So what do the stars have to say about Dua Lipa? Let’s talk about it.
Disclaimer: Human personality is an intricate layering of experiences and reactions and is constantly evolving. To rapidly summarize it is illusionary, especially when referring to a public figure that you don’t know intimately. An astrological birth chart is a neutral representation of yourself, similar to a mirror or your reflection in still water. Only the person staring back at you can truly attach judgment to it.
Libra Rising – Motivation
Your Ascendant sign is incredibly personal as it reflects the exact degree of the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon, which changes every few minutes, the moment you came into the material world. It tells us what wakes you up in life and gets you out of bed. In Dua Lipa’s chart, we see she has a Libra Rising with Venus as its ruler. This placement typically wants to be known for the way they communicate, express, and exchange ideas. Libra, a cardinal sign, specifically has an uncanny ability to connect with anyone, anywhere. Like 100 tour stops around the globe anywhere. I’ve always said that people whose Ascendant is in Libra have the gift to visually finesse just about anything. What does this mean? Well, their hair always looks perfectly set, they’ve styled themselves to perfection and have jewelry to match, and if they were to put a bouquet of flowers together it looks like it was crafted by Aphrodite herself. With Venus as its ruler, they are inspired by beauty and creativity and often have careers in fashion, entertainment, or the arts. Above everything, in all that they do, they seek out harmony. Motivated to create peace and balance and intuitively work out how they can make up for any lack in any given situation. A seductress of the zodiac, a Libra Rising is charming, distinguished, and has strong aesthetic tastes.

Hello?! No further explanation needed.
Sun in Leo in the 10th House – Purpose
The sun, a key component to the Big 3—and often the simple one-worded answer you get when you ask someone what their sign is—reflects someone’s life force, if you will. What do you see or feel when you imagine Leo season? Personally, I feel the warmth of the Sun beaming in a clear sky crawling on my skin as I sprawl out by a pool. The Sun rules Leo, making it well-placed in Dua Lipa’s chart. When the Sun is in Leo, it’s sitting on its throne and can practically cultivate the feeling of an August day in a person; warm, generous, vivacious. Leos shine and belong on a stage, having access to all of their brightly burning talents. These qualities all align with Dua’s charisma and creativity. Further proven alignment when this placement happens to be in the 10th House, which governs someone’s career aspirations and public image. Dua Lipa embodies courage, confidence, love, drama, and all the glitz and glamor that you would expect from a Leo Sun.

Now if this isn’t giving Leo energy, I don’t know what is…
Moon in Cancer in the 9th House – Emotional Needs & Sensitivity
In Astrology, the Moon represents our wants, needs, and sensitivities. It reflects our light and soul’s experience in our physical body and ultimately speaks to our life’s daily purpose. Similar to the positioning of Dua’s Sun sign, the Moon appears in its own sign: Cancer. The moon manifests a lot of power in this sign, extreme in its meaning and expression. Someone who has a Moon in Cancer can nourish the masses and needs the same in return in order to function and feel safe in their relationships. This placement, present here, is typically marked by someone who is intuitive, extremely sensitive, and empathic. Don’t be fooled by her dance-synth pop sound, look into the lyrics of songs like “Love Again” and see how it’s seething with softness. Dua’s Moon placement falls into the 9th House, another fitting home, as it represents someone’s spirituality, life’s philosophy, and greater wisdom. Moon in Cancer in the 9th House can paint a picture of someone who is deeply connected and sensitive to their belief system. They need a safe space they can call home that they can return to for deep rest and relaxation, and a reassuring family/entourage to bring that feeling of home wherever they end up together. While I can’t speak on Dua Lipa’s emotional needs, I can say that she proudly continues to share the cutest family photo album that is her Instagram feed. While continuing to tour the world with the people closest to her. God, how I wish it could be me.
