If you’re anything like us, we see an interesting headline during our daily scroll—pause to read it—but then keep scrolling without reading the actual story. So at the end of each week, we’re rounding up all the buzziest, news-worthy headlines you might have missed. Think of it like the “saved” feature on Instagram but for news instead of aesthetically pleasing photos. Coachella 2022 released their full lineup, Issa Rae’s Raedio label partnered with Google, and Kendrick Lamar announced his new film project —this is what you missed this week.
Coachella 2022: Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, and Kanye West to Headline
After being canceled two years in a row, Coachella is back with a stacked lineup. Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Kanye West (billed as Ye), and Swedish House Mafia are headlining and if you read the fine print the lineup only gets better. Daniel Caesar, Phoebe Bridgers, Disclosure, Doja Cat, and Isaiah Rashad to name a few. Not that I need much convincing to go to sunny California and party in the desert (does anyone?) but this lineup is hard to miss. Taking place across two weekends, mark your calendars for April 15-17 and April 22-24.
Megan Fox & Machine Gun Kelly Are Engaged
If 2021 was the year of pop-punk couples, 2022 is the year of pop-punk engagements. Taking to Instagram to announce the news, Megan Fox posted a video of MGK getting down on one knee and popping the question. MGK shared more details about the ring saying he went the untraditional route of a two-stone ring to feature Fox’s birthstone (emerald) and his own birthstone (diamond) interwoven together. Why? To “draw together as two halves of the same soul forming the obscure heart that is our love,” says MGK in his IG caption. Whenever pop culture news sets the internet ablaze, there is one trusted place to go for the best reactions—Twitter. Allow me to recap some of my personal favorites, @jasno_us tweeted “we are weed” a solid suggestion for how to end their wedding vows. @WrittenByHanna tweeted “who did the cinematography on Megan Fox’s engagement video?” I have also wondered this, did they do it in one take? Were there multiple cameras? What directors were the runner-ups? And finally the infamous Foot Locker employee comparison to MGK’s white and black striped shirt.
Issa Rae’s Raedio Label Teams Up With Google for Emerging Artists Program
Did you know Issa Rae, the genius behind Insecure, has a Raedio label? She just announced Raedio’s new partnership with Google to launch an emerging artists program. The Raedio Creator Program’s goal is to provide more resources to underrepresented independent artists and increase the representation of women of colour in the music industry. The program will select two female artists and two composers to help create and retain full ownership of their music. This includes a three-to-five song EP with all recording, producing, and marketing expenses covered. Submissions begin in February and recipients will be announced in March. Rae is well known for shining a spotlight on emerging artists by placing their music in Insecure and with the series conclusion last month, Raedio is a natural next step for her continued involvement to affect change in the music industry.
Anderson .Paak Sings With Elmo and Cookie Monster on Sesame Street
Anderson .Paak has taken his talents to a new genre of television–Sesame Street. Appearing on the latest episode, he performed “What Is A Holiday” with a little vocal help from Elmo. The song teaches Cookie Monster (and viewers) about the different holidays celebrated around the world. This season’s guests have also included Kacey Musgraves and Billie Eilish, making Sesame Street performances as coveted as late-night talk shows?
Kendrick Lamar Is Collaborating With South Park Creators on a Comedy Film
If we don’t get an album from Kendrick Lamar, we’re at least getting a movie. Announced this week, Lamar’s PGLang company has teamed up with the duo behind South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, to produce a live-action comedy for Paramount Pictures. Written by Vernon Chatman, the movie doesn’t have a title but the plot is described as “the past and present coming to a head when a young Black man, who is interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum, discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.” So Get Out meets comedy is what comes to mind from the plot. Production is set to begin this spring.
