Zebra Katz exploded onto the scene with 2012’s viral hit “Ima Read,” which garnered mass acclaim with remixes by big names like Azealia Banks, Busta Rhymes and Tricky.

The experimental theatre student turned emcee returns with a bouncy debut LP that positively leaps away from any preconceived notions about the Jamaican-American rapper extraordinaire.

Known for his high-energy and unpredictable stage act, LESS IS MOOR shows off Zebra Katz in full control of his lyrical and performative game, backed by a selection of strong instrumentals on the album’s 15 tracks.

Balancing the line between hard-broiled industrial muck, sound collage weirdness, emotive jungle-breaks, steady dancehall bounce, and netherworld-club beats, its easily the best outing in Katz’s career to date.

“LICK IT N SPLIT” features a fiery collab with NUXX honchos Sega Bodega and Shygirl, eagerly dipping into groovy aggro-trap that recalls Vince Staples’ Big Fish Theory, while “IN IN IN” uses afro-house as a base-jumping point for Katz’s charismatic, no-holds-barred flow.

Loaded to the brim with hooks, LESS IS MOOR guarantees repeated listens for rap fans of all types, cycling through a range of styles and genres with a lasting sense of pop appeal that lives up to the hype.

Best Track: “IN IN IN”
