The Singer in My Band – This is Lorelei

Such an easy alt-country listen, I find myself playing it in the background around the house! It feels like a careful curation of everything Nate Amos has released amongst his solo and collaborative projects over the past few years. To me, it departs slightly from the pop-y charm of 2024’s “Box for Buddy, Box for Star” and settles into a more cozy, bluegrass leaning sound. So excited for his show in Vancouver!

King of Having Fun – Medium Build

Medium Build’s new album feels like the perfect soundtrack for the transition into fall. Capturing the full range of emotions that comes with letting go of summer and jumping right into autumn, this album has been on repeat since it came out earlier this month. My favourite track is “Home Depot”!

I’m constantly coming back to Medium Build for his vulnerable, yet fun, storytelling! Can’t wait to see what he releases next.

The Romantic – Bruno Mars 

I’ll have this masterpiece on repeat till he drops a new album. Each listen feels like I’m hearing the album for the first time again, and it reminds me of that magical night at Rogers Stadium, when he brought The Romantic Tour to Toronto. That was perfection, and this album is everything!!!

“Odysseus” – Ludwig Göransson

I pray we haven’t all collectively gotten sick of this movie yet, because I’ve been listening to “Odysseus” By Ludwig Goransson off the soundtrack for Christopher Nolan’s: The Odyssey, that came out a couple months ago. Sometimes the best songs off a soundtrack are 1 minute long (heartbreaking!!!) but this one is a glorious 6 minute piece that includes all the required stops for an epic cinematic journey and offers a very (verryyy) satisfying release when its over. Its a great way to experience the highs, lows and emotional range of the film, without having to sit through the 3 hours it actually takes to watch it.

Oblivion – Romare

I’ve been listening to Romare’s soulful, sample-driven electronic since he opened for Bonobo in Toronto at The Danforth back in 2017.

He just dropped a new album, Oblivion, and it fits right in with the rest of his discography. On top of that, he’s announced a handful of headlining live performances, including a stop in Toronto. It’s sure to be a groovy night. And it’s a Friday. Hallelujah!

Bass Persuades – Miley Cyrus

Bass Persuades offers an intimate window into Miley’s inner life, balancing high-energy with raw vulnerability. The album opens with an intense spin-class-ready production, anchored by the gritty “Different Religion” featuring Model/Actriz, then transitioning to deeply resonant ballads like “Lets Get Married” and “Orbit”. These gorgeous love songs offer a glimpse into her relationship with fiancé Maxx Morondo. While Morondo collaborated across 80% of the project (and her last two projects), these tracks showcase Miley on her own. I was totally hypnotized by the visuals for the “Let’s Get Married” music video that is PURE art. With a stroke of brilliant marketing via her Peloton collab, connecting her intense opening tracks to fitness playlists, Miley delivers a multi-sensory experience that scratches your brain just right. Miley, you’ve done it again.
