There’s no better way to enter sweater weather than with the perfect R&B tunes, and when we’re discussing the genre, there’s one name that simply can’t be missed: Khalid. Imagine an artist dropping hits right from the start and never relenting. One song that aptly defined 2016 was his debut single, “Location.” The very next year, he released “Young Dumb & Broke,” which absolutely took over the internet and soundtracked a generation of teenage years and probably several questionable decisions. Then came American Teen, an album packed with jams we still have on repeat nearly a decade later, including “8TEEN,” “Another Sad Love Song,” and of course, “Location.” Little did we know that he was only getting started. 

Over the years, Khalid grew beyond the teenager behind the song that introduced him to the world, and that’s really what makes his impact on the music industry and culture so distinct. In 2018, he gave us “Better” and “Love Lies,” his collaboration with Normani, while 2019 brought “Talk,” another song that seemed ubiquitous. His growing list of unforgettable collaborations also includes “Eastside” with Benny Blanco and Halsey, and “Beautiful People” with Ed Sheeran, proving his versatility and range. In 2024, the R&B maestro released his fifth album, unlocking a more introspective chapter of his catalogue. The project explored love and self-discovery with tunes like “Adore U”, “Please Don’t Fall In Love With Me” and “Heatstroke.” He has grown with the audiences that discovered him and continues to find new ways to fit R&B into the ever-changing pop landscape. 

Just last year, he switched things up with his album after the sun goes down. The 17-track project is a little more adventurous and risky. He blends electro-R&B, dance-pop and early 2000s influences with the comforting soulful vocals he is known for. The album leans further into hyperpop and carries a carefree energy that runs through the project. 

Beyond the music, he remains intentional about connecting with his fans around the world. He’s been touring since the start of summer and is scheduled to stop in cities across Europe, Asia, North America and South America before the end of the year. He is making his way back to Montreal next week on September 24, where he’ll take over L’Olympia for an intimate, high-energy night dedicated to his fans – What a treat!
