There’s no better day when your favourite artist finally drops that album that’s been hyped up for countless months, there truly can be no better feeling in the world than that as a fan of that artist. It’s clear as day when a fanbase is overly excited for their artist project to release, just look at your X timeline anytime Taylor Swift announces new music. However when multiple big projects are released on the same day, for all music fans it’s a spectacle getting to see the two projects battle for the top of the charts, all while providing us with some of their best work.

September 24th, 1991 – Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers and A Tribe Called Quest
Arguably the greatest music release date of all time, exploding alternative rock into the mainstream with albums Nevermind by Nirvana, Blood Sugar Sex Magik by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and of course the Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest which also happened to reinvent what could be considered as jazz hip-hop. The three projects exceed 7 billion streams on Spotify alone, not counting as well for the lack of streaming services they had at the time on top of that. Each project holds some of their discographies best selling tracks, like “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on Nevermind or “Under the Bridge” on Blood Sugar Sex Magik.
November 23rd, 2010 – Kanye West and Nicki Minaj
A day that had more implications than you could ever think, when Nicki Minaj released Pink Friday on the same day Kanye West made his return to music releasing My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy after going essentially off the grid to record the project secretly in Hawaii. The day is often recognized purely as Nicki Minaj’s breakout, as not only did she release one of her most successful albums she also just so happened to have multiple features on Kanye’s album, making appearances on “Dark Fantasy”, and “Monster” earning her high praise with the quality of the features helping maintain the dark raspy tone heard throughout the project. The two have combined for just over 7 billion streams and are widely regarded as two incredibly experimental and successful projects.
September 29th, 1998 – Outkast and Lauryn Hill
While they weren’t a same-day release everywhere (internationally it was the same day release) the two projects Aquemini and The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill were dominant in 1998, with The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill being her most popular project to date, and Outkast’s Aquemini being their second largest. The two have racked up a respectable 2.2 billion streams to date with the sole standout song being “Doo Wop (That Thing)” by Lauryn Hill bringing in 500 million streams on it’s own.
September 13, 1994 – Notorious B.I.G and Weezer
Two artists who create the complete opposite of music, the two projects Ready to Die by the Notorious B.I.G and The Blue Album by Weezer hardly clashed despite being released on the same day. The geek-rock classic and the East Coast rap staple each set the standards across their genre at the time, becoming tunes still listened to this date. The two projects combine to amass around 6.3 billion streams.
September 11, 2001 – Jay-Z and Bob Dylan
Despite the album’s not being the primary focus on this day for obvious reasons, Jay-Z’s The Blueprint and Bob Dylan’s Love and Theft still managed to to become defining works amongst the artists catalogue. Jay-Z’s project had meant to map out the future of sound for himself, ending up mapping out the future of sound for everyone. Dylan’s album came later on in his career, but it still proved to the world that even after nearly 40 years of making music, he could still put out a classic. Both projects combined for just over a billion streams to date.
