“The One That Got Away” – Katy Perry
A perfect example of TikTok reviving a song that was massive decades ago, this pop-rock song is often being used to describe or relate to the creators own relationship experiences they’ve had in the past. It brings a lighthearted, reminiscent vibe to the listeners ears, perfect for those who stay up thinking about what could have been.
“Hate that I made you love me” – Ariana Grande
A song recently released, blew up online on the charts and on TikTok, creating what can be an overabundance of support for a song we don’t see very often in the music industry. Of course with Ariana Grande, a large reception to new music is expected, her fans can be just as dedicated to supporting her just as Taylor Swift’s fans are. However the song itself created something similar to what Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away” did, with a message that listeners can resonate with and create video for on TikTok that amassed millions of views and translated in millions of more streams for Ariana across streaming platforms.
“Cinderella” – Mac Miller and Ty Dolla $ign
By far the most nostalgic track resurfacing due to its increased usage in TikTok edits and other videos, the song brings back what can only be described as Mac Miller in the midst of his prime, excellent production, real raw vocals whether it’s through his singing or his rapping, and by far one of Ty Dolla’s stand out feature hooks he’s recorded in his discography. The song tells a story that can only be pieced together with context clues behind Miller’s life, giving his fans yet another run on the tail end of the release of Balloonerism.
