Have you ever tried raving in a storm? If you haven’t, I highly suggest it. Despite the rain, the crowd was insanely fun, experiencing the pure joie de vivre of the French Canadian folk, all unified under rain ponchos and a love for live music. However, as lightning crackled in the sky, an automated voice blasted through the speakers announcing the rest of the evening was canceled due to unforeseen weather conditions. Thousands of people came rushing onto the streets trying to find cover or transportation. I made a dash for the Hotel Concorde De Quebec in my plastic FEQ rain poncho, thinking about how it was a fitting end to an exciting day.
The day had begun on a much drier note. It was our first day at the largest outdoor festival in Canada, le Festival d’été de Québec, located in Québec City, the perfect place for people who like to be tourists by day and concert-goers by night. My Content Creator, Marianne Hossari, and I started off our day exploring the cafés, restaurants, and museums of Old Québec before heading over to the festival grounds. The best part of my day was being sent to Quebec City’s finest nail salon, Le Milorde, for the most luxurious manicure ever. If you ever find yourself in Quebec City, I highly recommend it!
We walked down the cobblestone streets of Rue Saint-Jean, which was closed off for pedestrians, a rare occurrence in Toronto, and took in the European ambiance filled with colorful houses and shops. It was a far cry from the skyscrapers and condo buildings that dominate the streets of Toronto. Since it was raining, we only went to the Bell Stage on the Plains of Abraham that evening. We had the pleasure of seeing wonderful sets by Mike Demero, Loud Luxury, and Alan Walker. The rain honestly brought out the best in people, and despite the weather, the crowd was united under rain ponchos, all eager to enjoy the live music.
Day 2 began with another stroll down Rue Saint-Jean. We wandered through the charming neighborhood, enjoying the lively atmosphere now that the rain had stopped. It was amazing to see the full scope of the festival without the rain confining us to one spot. We indulged in delicious food, bought some cute merchandise, played fun games, and watched a variety of artists perform across different stages.
Tonight had a strong country music vibe, so I had to pull out my cowboy boots. We enjoyed performances by The Franklin Electric, Martha Wainwright, Morgan Wade, and Charley Crockett. The night concluded with an outstanding show from the Zac Brown Band. It was a memorable evening, thanks to the incredible fans dressed in cowboy attire, singing along to every song.
Day 3 was the highlight of our trip as we eagerly anticipated seeing Post Malone live. Our evening began with the Rolling Stones Québec launch party, a delightful gathering where we mingled with fellow music enthusiasts, savored delicious food and drinks, and enjoyed the musical ambiance of past FEQ artists like Mike Demero.
Later, we made our way to the Bell Stage on the Plains of Abraham for the main event: Post Malone. Accompanied by an immensely talented live band, fireworks, flamethrowers, and an incredible stage presence, Post Malone put on one of the best shows I’ve ever experienced. The crowd was massive and electric. That night, we created core memories as we danced and sang our hearts out.
This concludes our festival experience! I’ll leave you with some wisdom from Post Malone himself: “We should just all be kind to each other and enjoy life.” Until next time, Québec City!
