Turnstile Is the First Rock Act To Join the Rolling Loud Lineup
Just when you think you know what Rolling Loud is all about, they start moving differently, but unlike your ex, they’re actually giving us more of what we want. Rolling Loud Miami has shared its eclectic lineup for 2023, with tickets going on sale today via their website. The festival will be headlined by Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, and A$AP Rocky in more traditional RL fashion, with other A-listers Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Lil Yachty, Trippie Redd, City Girls, Don Tolliver, Ice Spice, Central Cee, and more, in company. But, wait, one of these things is not like the other—Turnstile. The hardcore breakouts Turnstile become the first and only rock act on the massive lineup, asserting the plain and simple fact that Turnstile can show up welcomed to any festival out there. The band has played festivals that are hardcore, punk, and metal, and now they’re set to grace the notable Rolling Loud Miami program. In addition to Turnstile, the festival lineup also includes other acts that are out of the genre norm of the annual event, including Pinkpantheress, Foushée, and Spanish-speaking rapper Yovngchimi. While the annual Miami festival is the flagship of the Rolling Loud empire, the festival is expanding around the world rapidly. The franchise recently rolled out in California, debuts in Thailand with Travis Scott and Cardi B headlining, and over the summer, will be heading to Europe for the second annual Portugal festival, first-ever Rotterdam festival, and the inaugural Rolling Loud Germany in Munich. Though not traditionally similar in nature, Turnstile and Rolling Loud do have one major common theme—it’s giving world domination.

The Weeknd Teases a Taste of ‘The Idol Vol. 1’ & Coachella Appearance
It was just a regular Wednesday until superstar-extraordinaire The Weeknd posted a 17-second video of himself, alongside renowned producer Mike Dean in the studio, with a swooning arrangement by an orchestra, captioned “THE IDOL VOL. 1” with a CD emoji, giving fans “just a taste” of what’s to come with his forthcoming HBO project The Idol. Though the highly anticipated TV project’s premiere date has yet to be announced, it is rumored premiering at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in May, followed by HBO in June. One of the teased songs Abel has been cooking up for the show’s soundtrack is a cover of John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy”, perfectly fitting for the dark and dramatic tone of the show. The show’s official synopsis reads, “The Idol, set against the backdrop of the music industry, centers on a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol,” and if that isn’t enough to get you excited, The Weeknd knows exactly what he’s doing with this social media strategy. Mike Dean will also be one of the star-studded cast members, along with Lily-Rose Depp, BLACKPINK’s Jennie, Troye Sivan, Dany Levy, and many more. It’s obvious that The Weeknd and Mike Dean have been busy recently; Abel went live on Instagram Monday night (April 10) to tease more of what he and the producer have been cooking up, including a snippet of a song with an immediately recognizable voice: Future. There’s a toxic-boy summer on the horizon, to say the least. In addition, The Weeknd also posted a blurry picture of Dean playing synths in the back of an Instagram story with a desert emoji followed by a question mark, which can only lead fans to presume that the Toronto-born legend was hinting at a Coachella appearance. Since then, a fan Twitter account @abelstargirllll shared a graphic of the artist and wrote, “THE WEEKND WILL PERFORM AT COACHELLA THIS YEAR.” While that alone is not enough to confirm, The Weeknd retweeted it, so there’s our answer, and we couldn’t be happier.

Jay-Z Is Performing in Paris for Basquiat x Warhol Exhibit
We have a rare sighting of Jay-Z this week as he is set to perform at the incredibly intimate show dubbed “Jay-Z Celebration Concert” to help roll out the Basquiat x Warhol Painting Four Hands exhibition. The event is hosted by Foundation Louis Vuitton and is taking place at the foundation’s auditorium in Paris. The event is a celebratory concert to pay tribute to Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat and will have even more major performances in store in addition to Jay-Z. It has been a hot minute since we’ve seen Jay-Z light up the stage. Prior to his joint performance with Rick Ross and Lil Wayne for DJ Khaled’s 2023 Grammy Awards performance of “God Did,” Jay-Z has not performed live since the 2018 tour for On The Run II with Beyoncé. His last full-length record, 4:44, dates 5 years, and since then, his focus has been on building his music and business empire. Given Jay-Z’s impressive track record of showing up and showing out, there is no doubt that he will bless fans with an incredible show stacked with his greatest hits. We know that Beyoncé is gearing up to get her show on the road for her tour for Renaissance, and if Jay-Z headlining this concert indicates his openness to surprise tour appearances, we could be in for a treat.

Drake Debuts Lil Uzi Vert Collaboration “At The Gates”
One thing about Drake is that he always keeps us on our toes. Only days after dropping “Secure & Rescue,” which samples a soundbite from Kim Kardashian, Drizzy is back at it again with his sizzling hot debut of “At The Gates” featuring Lil Uzi Vert. While this marks the duo’s first time collaborating, Drizzy had shown love to the rapper by bringing him out on stage at J Cole’s Dreamville Festival and during his show in Harlem, New York, in January. A 50-second snippet of the track first surfaced online in 2021, and since then, fans have been on the lookout for the official release. The single first debuted on Sirius XM’s SOUND 42 and features a chilling trap sound as the rappers spit bars on top of a hard-hitting beat. Drizzy has yet to disclose when the track will hit streaming services, but we’re getting the sense that it will be sooner rather than later. Lil Uzi Vert is currently putting together his highly anticipated album, The Pink Tape, and currently sits with 680 songs for the album to choose from, according to Don Cannon, who is working on the project with him. This impressive number, paired with the viral success of the rapper’s “Just Wanna Rock,” is exactly what we need to hold us over until “At The Gates” and/or his full-length record drops, whichever comes first.

King Krule Announces Album ‘Space Heavy’ & Drops Single “Seaforth”
English singer, songwriter, rapper, and record producer Archy Marshall, known by his stage name King Rule, has announced his new album Space Heavy, arriving on June 9. The album follows his 2020 LP Man Alive! and has been in the works from 2020 to 2022 in London and Liverpool and is comprised of 15 tracks. It’s set to explore the idea of the “space between” the two locations, inspired by his creative process, developing the lyrics and tracks on commutes between these two places that he considers to be home. Exploring a narrative of “lost connection,” he puts emphasis on the negative space in songs, as he would the positive. The stripped-back lead single “Seaforth” was also shared with the album announcement, alongside its music video counterpart, and is dreamy and transports listeners into the musician’s “sleeping mind”. The music video tells the story of two golden retrievers; a father, and his puppy. It’s obviously adorable. As if King Krule needed to do anything more to lift our moods aside from new music, he and director Jocelyn Anquetil went as far as to add some very cute dogs into the mix, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Upcoming on July 22, we can look forward to King Krule performing at Pitchfork Music Festival at Chicago’s Union Park.

SZA and Doja Cat Unleash ‘Kill Bill’ Remix
The dynamic duo returns as the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. After dropping her highly-anticipated album on the cusp of the new year and completing a massively successful North American tour of her album SOS, SZA taps Doja Cat to hop on her viral hit “Kill Bill.” The eclectic rapper was initially set to feature in the original version of “Shirt,” but because of her emergency tonsil surgery, this plan never came to fruition. Over the mellow and eerie tunes we’re all-too-familiar with at this point, we hear Doja spitting bars, telling a story of confronting an unfaithful partner with a blick and committing murder out of anger. “She grabbed the kitchen knife, so I pulled out the blick / Ain’t got it all the time, thank God I did for this / Y’all criss-crossed, saw her fall to the floor / Then you paused there in horror, but that shot wasn’t for her.” Just as Doja wraps up her story, SZA comes in with her smooth vocals and carries us to the song’s ending with her revenge story. The duo explored their unfiltered, intense emotions, and safe to say it’s a bit scary, but mostly, a bop. Aside from the collab, the two ladies are both kept busy. There has been a lot of buzz on Doja’s upcoming project, and while she keeps going back and forth on the name and genre, we know that the rapper has something in the works. As for SZA, she is set to headline the Open’er Festival in the summer and will embark on round 2 of her North American tour in the fall. As much as we’re in support of women’s rights, we’re in support of women’s wrongs. Here is to hoping for a live performance from the duo for us to indulge in and live out our most unhinged fantasies.
