The Weeknd and MSCHF Collab on Playable “Out Of Time” Saw Blade Record
It’s a busy week for The Weeknd, after it was announced that he would be taking Kanye’s Coachella spot (with Swedish House Mafia) he dropped a music video for “Out of Time” featuring Jim Carrey and Squid Games’ Hoyeon Jung. But that’s not all, The Weeknd teamed up with art collective, MSCHF, to create a vinyl record pressed into a saw blade—called a vinyl blade—for “Out of Time”. If MSCHF sounds familiar that’s because they were behind Lil Nas X’s controversial sold-out satan shoes. In the same fashion as the Lil Nas X collab, the Vinyl Blade is limited edition with only 25 copies available for auction on the MSCHF site. Bidding started at $1,000 but has already ended. The vinyl blade is compatible with turntables although it comes with a warning about its sharp edges, non-standard diameter, and heavyweight which could affect playback on turntables. The Weeknd added his own quirky warning—not to operate while heartbroken.

Jack Harlow’s Fergie-Sampling “First Class” Is Here
Jack Harlow has had the entire female population of TikTok in a chokehold since he released a 14-second snippet of his new song “First Class”. Why you may ask? On a surface level, the use of Fergie’s “Glamorous” is a surefire way to gain favor with the female demographic but as TikToker Tinx said it best—that song is definitely laced with something. Maybe it’s Jack & The Pussycats 2022 version, either way, I am thoroughly enjoying my fyp being taken over by parodies, declarations of love, original dances, and a general appreciation for the Fezco of hip-hop. Now that the full version is released, Harlow also has a line referencing Angus Cloud (the other 20-something white boy taking over pop culture) where he says “Can’t lie, I’m on Angus Cloud 9.” All I can think of when I hear that line, is the cloud Angus was on when told an ET reporter “no, thank you” after being asked to talk about his feelings. Jack’s upcoming album, Come Home The Kids Miss You, is fast approaching with a release date of May 6th and all I can say is bravo! If there’s one thing he’s got over Angus, it’s media training.

Fivio Foreign Shares Debut Album ‘B.I.B.L.E.’ Ft. Kanye, Quavo, A$AP Rocky & More
New York drill rapper, Fivio Foreign, has released his highly-anticipated debut album B.I.B.L.E. executive produced by Kanye. Fivio’s star has been ascending the last few years, part of the Pop Smoke-led wave that popularized New York drill by breaking into mainstream culture and charts. Along with Kanye’s production expertise, the album is a testament to the many friends and co-signs Fivio has in the industry with features from A$AP Rocky, Lil Yachty, Polo G, Quavo, DJ Khaled, and more. He also appeared on Hot 97 this week to discuss the new album and revealed that Beyoncé wouldn’t clear the sample of her 1999 Destiny Child song “Say My Name” until he cleaned up the vulgar language in the lyrics. He obliged and the result is the track “What’s My Name” featuring Coi Leray and Queen Naija.

Olivia Rodrigo Covers Avril Lavigne, Veruca Salt Oldies on Her Debut Tour
After a very successful night at the Grammys, winning not one but three awards, Olivia Rodrigo has embarked on her debut tour for Sour. Kicking off in Portland, Rodrigo’s album only clocks in at 35 mins, and fans anticipated there would be covers added to her setlist. The angsty teenager inside of me screamed when I saw a clip of Olivia singing Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated” during the opening night. That was until I realized Olivia wasn’t even born when “Complicated” came out and I am, therefore, officially old. Olivia and Avril’s friendship has been documented at the Grammys and countless other award shows this year but Avril isn’t the only alternative artist Olivia paid tribute to. She played Veruca Salt’s “Seether” and thanked her mom for introducing her to the band. Fingers crossed there’s an Avril x Olivia cross-generational pop-punk collab in the future.

Nicki Minaj Impersonates Adele & Discusses Her Anxiety on ‘Carpool Karaoke’
Nicki Minaj was recently on Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, and for those who may remember back in 2016 the standout moment from Adele’s ride was when she rapped the entirety of “Monster”. This time around, Nicki returned the favor by singing Adele’s “Someone Like You” and the classic “Super Bass”. She also opened up about the pressures of being a young woman in the spotlight, admitting that she was more confident when she was younger but over the years the public’s criticism can take its toll.
