From psychedelic pop to 70s-inspired boogie rock, Yukon Blonde have built their reputation over the course of the last 10 years on their ability to write relatable music that everyone can groove to. The quintet continue to evolve their sound with the release of their forthcoming album, Vindicator, out Nov. 13 on Dine Alone Records. 

With Halloween just around the corner Yukon Blonde’s co-vocalist and keyboard player Rebecca Gray may not be keen on scary movies but she certainly knows how to pull together a chilling playlist that pulls from all corners of the musical spectrum. From the absolutely fitting Doors single, “Strange Days,” to the Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ classic, “I Put A Spell On You,” Gray’s meticulously curated playlist will have you howlin’ at the moon to the tune of Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves Of London.” Check it out and follow along with this Spotify playlist.

An appropriate place to start. These are strange days, indeed.

Echo & The Bunnymen – “Killing Moon”

Hauntingly beautiful, this track reminds me of my wannabe goth teen youth.

The Church – “Under The Milky Way”

Big time synth inspiration for me. I love the ethereal and sweeping pads throughout the song.

Warren Zevon – “Werewolves Of London”

Generally speaking, I don’t enjoy being scared. And I don’t enjoy “Monster Mash.” So this track is the next best thing. Huge players on this track too; the “Sweet Home Alabama” of October.

Timber Timbre – “Too Old To Die Young”

Timber Timbre is an any-time band for me, but their dark and sometimes sinister sound is particularly appropriate listening for your Halloween eve.

Colin Stetson – “Reborn”

From the original score of one of the only horror films I’ve watched, Hereditary. Colin Stetson is an incredible composer and musician; I implore you to check out his extensive discography.

Larry & The Blue Notes – “Night Of The Sadist” 

I’m a big fan of 60s garage, and these Fort Worth kids are no exception. Great track that has been featured on a lot of cool compilations.

Donovan – “Season Of The Witch”

 Such a classic Donovan tune. Dark and foreboding. Makes me think of night time in Los Angeles.

Screamin’ Jay Hawkins – “I Put A Spell On You”

An absolute classic. Was banned from most radio because of its “cannibalistic” style.

David Bowie – “We Are The Dead”

From one of my favourite Bowie records, a nice ease out of my spooky playlist. Thanks for listening!
