This isn’t the first or second time I’ve caught up with 24kGoldn, the 21-year-old charismatic rapper who saw meteoric success over the last two years with earworm hits like “Mood” and “Valentino”. His debut album, El Dorado, is the type of feel-good music his fans love him for—a perfect mix of pensive lyrics and melodic beats with a one-two braggadocious lyric thrown in for good measure. Music aside, you can always count on Goldn to come through with a sick fit, whether it’s his signature Lavin Curb sneakers or gold El Dorado grillz—he’s always dripped out. While wrapping up his Better Late Than Never tour, he gave us the photo diary version of a TikTok GRWM for his show in Toronto. Below, he chats about his fit details (custom Saint Laurent and Marni included), his warmups before each show, his travel essentials, and memorable moments from the tour.
Where are you getting ready?
I’m in the green room right now, it’s about an hour before the show.
What is your getting ready process?
Before every show, I do thirty minutes of vocal warmups. People don’t realize that your vocal cords are like a muscle. If you try and go play basketball without stretching, you gonna pull something. I gotta stretch my vocal cords and make sure they good for the hour-long performance. After that, get dressed and get fly, put my in-ears in, and pop out.
What are you wearing?
I’m wearing custom Saint Laurent sequin pants, my own tour merch for my t-shirt, and a custom jacket that Marni gifted me for the release of my album last year, El Dorado. I’m wearing some Saint Laurent sneakers, and I got a Kapital scarf tied around my mic.
Is there a statement piece?
Definitely the pants. I originally made these pants for the AMAs when me and Iann [Dior] performed “Mood”. But they’re so fire, the sparkles hit so crazy on stage, I had to bring them back out for this tour.
What are your tour essentials?
A lot of water, neck pillow, AirPods, laptop, and a vocal toolkit from my vocal coach Nick Cooper.
What’s the first thing you can’t wait to do after a show?
Take a shower.
Any noteworthy or memorable moments from the show?
It’s just always beautiful hearing the fans sing the words back to songs like “Outta Pocket” or “Yellow Lights”. Songs that the whole world doesn’t know but my people know.
