Chad VanGaalen just announced the surprise release of Odds & Sods 2, a new eight-track album of unreleased B-sides and rarities, available today through Bandcamp.

Odds & Sods 2 is a thoughtful mix of oddball tracks from the last 10 years performed by the Calgary-based artist. Some are indie folk songs that never made the cut for his 2014 album, Shrink Dust, some are from limited edition cassettes that he would sell at his live shows, others veer all the way left to showcase the synth-drenched, experimental side of VanGaalen’s Black Mold output.

All proceeds from the sales of the album will go towards the Sweet Relief COVID-19 fund.

Sensitive to the enormous medical and financial burden that COVID-19 is having on the music community, Sweet Relief is actively taking steps to provide assistance where it’s needed most and has started a fund specifically for musicians and music industry workers affected by the Coronavirus.

VanGaalen’s release is timed with Bandcamp’s current campaign also aimed at supporting musicians through this time of financial uncertainty by waiving their revenue share for the next 24 hours.

“To raise even more awareness around the pandemic’s impact on musicians everywhere, we’re waiving our revenue share on sales today (Friday, March 20 from midnight to midnight Pacific Time), and rallying the Bandcamp community to put much needed money directly into artists’ pockets,” Bandcamp co-founder and CEO Ethan Diamond wrote on the company’s website.

Bandcamp is also urging music fans to consider paying more than the asking price and leave a note for the artist.

“A tip and words of support are always appreciated, but especially so now,”  Diamond says.
