J Balvin will soon join the likes of Travis Scott, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake and others when he releases his first sneaker in the coming weeks. In doing so, the Colombian reggaeton artist will become the first Latinx artist to collab with Jordan Brand on his very own take on the iconic Air Jordan 1 silhouette.
After teasing the sneaker on his Instagram, Balvin revealed the shoe in its entirety on stage last night at the Super Bowl. The bold design is in line with the singer’s wild personal style characterized by bold prints and bright colours, and features a rainbow coloured upper with scalloped edges, exposed sponge peeking out the top of the tongue, and a happy face logo on the heel.
The buzz about a possible collaboration has been steady since mid-last year when Balvin shared a photo with Michael Jordan himself to his social media, and now we finally can see the final product. Previously, Balvin has collaborated with streetwear brand BAPE on an apparel collection.
