Thousands of people packed Place Georges-V in Quebec City on December 31, on the final night of the inaugural Toboggan Festival, ready to ring in both a new year and decade. The New Year’s Eve festivities would also mark the final night of the newly-minted festival, the latest venture for the same group responsible for Festival d’ete—Quebec City’s flagship summer music festival.
Visitors of all ages packed the festival village early, huddled around pop-up firepits and enjoying some of the winter treats (including hot chocolate, and chocolate “poutine” with churro fries) while taking in performances by earlier performers Haviah Mighty and Sleepy Tom. By the time the main act was due to take the stage, the audience was fired up and ready for a party.
Loud Luxury have performed in Quebec City a number of times, and seemed happy to be back. They ran through a string of their own hits including “Body” and “Love No More,” as well as remixes of popular songs including Kygo’s “Higher Love.” Despite falling snow and a chilly -5°C temperature, Loud Luxury had the crowd going crazy for their whole hour set before leading everyone in a New Years countdown, which was followed by a multi-directional fireworks display.
