The Grammy’s have been delivering iconic fashion moments ever since J-Lo hit the red carpet wearing her jaw-dropping, plunging Versace number two decades (!!!) ago. The 62nd Grammy Awards went down last night in Los Angeles, and, as expected, the stars to showed all the way out with their sartorial choices for music’s biggest night.
Despite a somber mood due to the unexpected passing of Kobe Bryant earlier in the day, the ceremony was full of memorable moments and performances, including an incredible show-opening number by Lizzo and a star-studded tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle.
Check out the gallery of some of our standout Grammys fashion moments above and read on for some of our favourite trends of the night.
New Hollywood Glam
Never mind Old Hollywood; it’s a new year and new decade and it’s all about the new kids on the block. Lizzo stunned in a white sleeveless Versace own with a high-leg slit, which she paired with a shawl and matching purse. Ariana Grande’s grey custom Giambattista Valli gown was another show-stopper, with it’s three tiers of dramatic tulle, accented by her elbow-length gloves. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend were our favourite glam couple of the night—Teigen in a stunning Yanina Couture dress with a plunging neckline and statement sleeves, while her hubby John looked sharp in a light grey suit with a unique, elongated pleated blazer. Other honourable mentions include Jessie Reyez in a bright red gown with dramatic full skirt; Camila Cabello in a sequin-adorned black strapless number; and Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’oir who took “black tie” to a whole new level.
The Yee Haw Agenda
The YHA isn’t just a passing fad and Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus, Orville Peck, and Diplo all showed out with their own personal takes on country cool. Lil Nas was in his truest form in his over-the-top hot pink ensemble, while Orville Peck rocked his trademark fringed Lone Ranger mask along with a stunning silver shirt and oversized cowboy hat.
Suits, Suits and More Suits
While you can never go wrong with a classic black tux, this year the men showed that there’s so much more variety to the classic suit than one might think. We spotted a variety of styles, cuts, materials and shades including The Jonas Brothers’ shiny suits in complementing colours; Shawn Mendes’ dark magenta version with a casual open collar; and BTS’ neutral palette and mixture of tailored styles with oversized, baggy pieces.
Oddball, but Make It Fashion
Fashion is meant to be fun, and nothing is more fun than seeing someone express their own creativity and uniqueness through their clothes. FKA Twigs; Tyler, The Creator; Billy Porter; Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell all stepped out in unique looks that only each of them could pull off, with stunning results.
